This year, Irwin Fritchie proudly advanced its commitment to pro bono and public interest work by taking on nine cases representing 14 children in the initial stages of their Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) proceedings. These efforts were made possible through partnerships with the New Orleans Pro Bono Project and Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO).

“At Irwin Fritchie, we are fortunate to have an outstanding group of attorneys who are also great people,” said Irwin Fritchie President, Timothy Daniels. “This pro bono work is not only valuable to the children involved, but it is also very important to our community. We are proud not only to support these efforts, but we celebrate those who take time from their very busy schedules and personal lives to give back in this most inspiring way.”

Starting in June of this year, 16 volunteer attorneys and seven summer associates dedicated their time and expertise to meet with the families of 14 children to draft pleadings for filing in Louisiana state courts. Since then, Irwin Fritchie attorneys have appeared at seven successful hearings, enabling these children to pursue SIJS—a critical form of humanitarian immigration relief available to uniquely vulnerable minors.

“The way our firm came together to represent these children was incredible,” said Irwin Fritchie Partner, Ali Splinder. “Attorneys at all levels, summer associates, and staff alike volunteered to help with our pro bono cases, and their efforts will have a significant impact for these children in their immigration cases. I’m incredibly grateful and proud of our firm’s support of this important pro bono work.”
